Topic Audience

My topic audience is basketball throughout the Norman, OK area. My focus is on basketball away from intercollegiate athletics. I am looking forward to do research amongst local AAU and MAYB basketball teams for playing and coaching vacancies.

I will also be looking at little league teams and intramural basketball. I could also do feature stories of some of the athletes, as the way there lives are outside of the lines of the court and the classroom.

Basketball opens a lot of options to speak to a few different audiences through this media outlet. I believe writing about this to a basketball focused audience will open doors to speak to multitude of crossover readers.

About Me

My name is Jordan Marks. I am a Public Relations senior (by hours) from Port Arthur, Texas. I chose to come to the University of Oklahoma (OU) at the last minute, and only applied because my sister graduated from here. In retrospect, it was the best decision I could have made for my future. My projected graduation date is May, 2011. I graduated #3 out of 477 students in my high school. I fell short of the reaching the top spot because of my athletic endeavors. My favorite subject growing up, thanks to my grandfather, was math. I have always enjoyed it, and have done well in that subject over the years.

When I originally enrolled at OU, I was majoring in Accounting, from the push of my father. I soon learned that business was not the avenue for me. The one skill, besides math, that I knew I had was the ability to write well. Journalism was then an obvious choice. I chose to specialize in Public Relations to help suit my dream job of being a sports’ agent. Upon receiving my bachelor’s I plan on either teaching immediately out school, or going to law school to further reach my dreams. I also my take the option of receiving a second bachelor’s in mathematics.

I think that Multimedia will help me by teaching me software that is essential for the new generation of journalist to know. Being prepared for the way the world is vastly changing can never hurt. With me trying to reach my goal of being a sports’ agent, being able to related to different audiences by using different media outlets will be beneficial for the façade of my client.

I think taking this class is a step forward in the right direction on the path toward my goals. Having this skill would set me apart as a sports’ agent, and could only lead to a progressive career for. I am looking forward to learning as much as possible and taking what I have learned from this class and applying it to real world endeavors. This class may be a little tough for me, but one learns more from the mistakes they make. I am ready for this class to make me a better writer and journalist overall.
